URLQ Finalists Decided
After ten rounds of wet weather, close scorelines and spirited competition, the 2009 Universities Rugby League Queensland (URLQ) finalists have finally been decided.
Having been crowned premiers for the past four seasons, the Griffith Dragons were fittingly the first team to qualify for this season’s grand final, courtesy of their last round 38-14 victory over the University of Queensland’s Gatton Bulls.

Round 9 washed out
Due to South East Queensland’s inclement weather conditions, Round 9 of the URLQ competition was washed out.
The top of the table clash between the Griffith Dragons and the UQ Hounds never eventuated, with both sides forced to share the two competition points thanks to the monsoonal conditions. Griffith holds onto stop spot courtesy of their one point, while the Hounds slip down to third behind the fast finishing Trouts.
And with both sides out of finals contention, the Ironbarks and UQ Gatton Bulls have decided to postpone their match until week one of the semi’s.
Dragons Consolidate
The Griffith Dragons have extended their lead at the top of the 2009 URLQ Table courtesy of a scrappy 16-6 victory over the USQ Ironbarks at a chilly Griffith University’s Nathan campus last night.
The cold conditions obviously affected both sides handling, with the Dragons three tries to one victory keeping this season’s undefeated record intact.

Trouts run riot
Round five of the URLQ competition featured some exciting rugby league, with the QUT Trouts recording their maiden victory, while the UQ Hounds continued their fine form to claim outright second spot with another dazzling display.
On a typically chilly Toowoomba night, the Trouts routed the depleted USQ Ironbarks 40-4 in a one-sided affair, with the home side obviously missing the services of Queensland University representatives Matt Schultz and Robbie Peters, and injured backrower Eugene Seddon.

Dragons and Hounds breathe fire
Free flowing attack dominated Round four of the URLQ competition at Griffith University’s Nathan campus last night, as both the Griffith Dragons and UQ Hounds chalked up comprehensive victories.
The Dragons have overtaken the Bulls as competition leaders after four rounds thanks to the home side’s 56-6 spanking of the visiting Bulls, whilst the UQ Hounds showed that they are still a force, upsetting the QUT Trouts 32-14 in a fiery encounter.

Thrilling Finishes in Round 2 Action
Round 2 of the URLQ competition produced two nail biting finishes at Griffith University last night, with spirited clashes and tenacious defence the order of the night.
The small Griffith crowd who braved the cool conditions witnessed two exhilarating contests, with the Griffith Dragons and QUT Trouts battling it out for a 20-all draw, whilst the UQ Hounds survived a late scare to hold out the USQ Ironbarks, 20-18.
