URLQ Season 2010 - Round 5

The QUT Trouts have gone into the big break undefeated after an impressive 52-6 win over the Gatton Bulls. The first 10 minutes of the game saw Gatton camped on the Trouts line through some good kicking and attacking play.

However, after the sustained pressure from the bulls, a couple of line breaks saw the Trouts grab the first 2 tries of the night which was closely followed by an impressive solo length of the field try from fullback David Sen from a poorly chased kick.

The Trouts scored again just before halftime through their halfback Steve Stagg who finished the game with a personal tally of 24 points, coming from 3 tries and 6 goals, to lead the Gatton bulls 24-0 at the break.

After the break, the second half was a continuation of the first, where Gatton made too many mistakes and the Trouts capitalized on them to run in a further 6 tries.  The Bulls, to their credit, never gave up and got a consolation try to Nick Dunston to give the final 52-6 scoreline.

Special mentions once again go to the QUT forwards, especially Dave Debortoli and Steve Young for their defense and Jay ‘Scott Geddes’ Fowler for his damaging dummy half scooting.

And in other Round 5 action,

The Gold Coast Panthers moved into second spot in their inaugural season thanks to a forfeit by the UQ Hounds.
