The UQ Hounds proved that they will be the team to beat in the 2010 URLQ competition thanks to a 36-4 hammering of the Griffith Dragons at Nathan last Wednesday night.

In a replay of the 2009 URLQ grand final, the Hounds dominated the home side from the opening kick-off, racing in four first half tries to leave an impressive Dragons outfit stunned at the main break.

Led by dynamic half Drew Tobin, the Hounds displayed some exhilarating attack to race in seven tries in total for a comprehensive victory.

In Wednesday’s other match, the QUT Trouts continued their impressive form with a 24-0 shut out of URLQ new boys, the Griffith Gold Coast Panthers.

It was always going to be a tough first up display for the Panthers, with team members having never met prior to the round 2 clash. And despite the Trouts dominating possession through a clinical display, the Gold Coast boys did show that they could be a force with a few more runs under their belt.

The Trouts shot out to an early 8-0 lead thanks to two quick fire tries within the opening ten minutes, with the Trouts game plan of throwing the ball around proving difficult for the new Panthers defence to contain.

Despite holding a dominant 14-0 led at the break, the talented Trouts were met with a resolute Panthers in the second half, with Gold Coast starting to show cohesion through the forwards as the game wore on.

But the Trouts showed why they are one of the competition favourites, holding out continuous waves of Panthers attack and post a further two tries to move into first place on the ladder.

The Trouts enjoy the bye in Round 3, while the Hounds play host to the UQ Gatton Bulls at Nathan, while the Panthers play host to the Dragons in an all Griffith affair at Runaway Bay.
