 Trouts run riot

Round five of the URLQ competition featured some exciting rugby league, with the QUT Trouts recording their maiden victory, while the UQ Hounds continued their fine form to claim outright second spot with another dazzling display.

On a typically chilly Toowoomba night, the Trouts routed the depleted USQ Ironbarks 40-4 in a one-sided affair, with the home side obviously missing the services of Queensland University representatives Matt Schultz and Robbie Peters, and injured backrower Eugene Seddon.

With their monster forward pack taking charge, the Trouts barged their way to a 9 tries to 1 victory, with only poor goal-kicking preventing them from reaching the half century.

Forwards Fou Fuimano and Richard Kirkbright again dominated through their size for QUT, with wingers David Horne and Kyle Panebianio both capitalising on the extra room with try scoring doubles.

Another strong team effort from the UQ Hounds saw them run away with a comfortable 32-18 victory over the inconsistent UQ Gatton Bulls at Griffith University on Wednesday night.

The Hounds third successive victory sees them stay in contact with the competition leading Griffith Dragons, with both teams again tipped to battle it out at the business end of the season.
