The
University of
Queensland Hounds are the clear cut leaders after four rounds of the URLQ competition, thanks to their 34-0 demolition of the QUT Trouts on Wednesday night.
Returning from the half-time break with a slender 4-0 advantage, the Hounds piled on five second half tries against a 12-man Trouts side to extend their lead at the top of the URLQ points table.
Tom Lawler enjoed a fine night for scoring, crossing for the Hounds second try and booting five goals from six attempts.
In Wednesday nights other fixture, a spirited defensive effort in the final ten minutes from the Griffith Dragons has seen them hold on to record a thrilling 18-16 victory over the USQ Ironbarks at a bitterly cold Nathan campus.
Two long range intercept tries to USQ five-eighth Matt Schultz kept the Trouts in the match, with the magic of Queensland and Australian Universities half Robbie Peters almost paving the way to an upset Ironbarks victory.
The Dragons were best served by Alan Kemp, Luke Schoem and Jason Porter, but it was the Dragons determined and dogged team defensive effort that saw them evetually get home in what was a scrappy affair.
